Amsterdam through British eyes

Amsterdam 2013

2013 is set to be an incredible year for Amsterdam with several landmark occasions for the city. It is the 400th anniversary of the canal ring, 40 years of the Van Gogh museum, the Rijksmuseum and 150 years since the abolition of slavery, which are just a few reasons for visiting in 2013.

Hostelbookers recently named Amsterdam as one of the best holiday cities of 2012-2013 and hopefully with all of the things going on in Amsterdam over the next year in Amsterdam, it will reach the number one spot next year. (London is good, but Amsterdam is better – I know, Ive lived in both cities!)

Celebrations kick off this weekend with a showcase of the best of Amsterdam over a course of 24 hours. The events include a het muziektheater guided tour, an expat walking tour of the Jordaan, a city bike tour of the canal ring, night running and a walking tour of the 9 streets.

To coincide with this there is also an event called Amsterdam hotel night, aimed specifically at Amsterdammers. For one night only hotels will reduce their rates for people living in Amsterdam. The hotels are also holding different events around the city which you can go to, even if you aren’t staying in a hotel Full details of both 24H and Amsterdam Hotel Night can be found here.

2013 is also a special year for me as well – I’m planning on making this blog bigger and better starting with a challenge to myself to blog every week, and to write for different publications too so I can start to really network and make this blog amazing! There will be some noticeable changes in content (Along the lines of book reviews, hotel and hostel reviews and other surprises along the way!) and hopefully you’ll like it!
