Amsterdam through British eyes

Foodie heaven at the Food Film Festival

If food is your passion you will have known all about the Food Film Festival – a three day extravaganza on everything to do with food, including workshops, films, a market, and even parties thrown into the mix. This was actual foodie heaven. The Nordic Food Lab was where I started my food extravaganza.

The Nordic Food lab is a non-profit organisation which was set up by the head chef of Noma, Rene Redzepi, and Gastronimic Entrepeneur Claus Meyer in 2008. They like to do all kinds of experiments with food using old and new ingredients, and speaker Ben Reade took us through some of the end products of experiments they have been doing in the lab.

We tried so many good things, and most of them were delicious. Some of the highlights from this were trying their `Peaso’ a new recipe for their version of Miso, black garlic, and elderflower and elderberry vinegar. It really was a taste sensation and there were some unusual flavours including starfish gonads which had been dried with a lot of salt added. It wasn’t very popular.

The `It’s not just Brunch’ workshop was fantastic. We learnt how to make eggs benedict, eggs florentine, and eggs blackstone totally from scratch, including the muffins and hollandaise sauce. The end result was so good, that I will be making it again (and again).

A girl has to eat!
