Amsterdam through British eyes

Review: Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel

Renaissance Amsterdam hotel is located a short distance away from Central Station. It is a 4 star hotel, on a quiet road. I stayed there for just one night during Amsterdam Hotel Night in a double room with two single beds. Here’s what I thought about my stay.

Location: The location is perfect – it’s not far from Amsterdam’s Central station in a quiet road. Everything is easily accessible here, and finding a restaurant that is closeby is really simple. Public transport is also easy to find (given that you can walk to Central station, where all of the trams, metros and trains are), and Central Station is well connected to the rest of the Netherlands and Europe.

Room: We ended up in a room with two single beds (that will teach us for checking in at 6.30pm), a bathroom with a shower, a non-steaming mirror and toiletries. It was a good size – though the view wasn’t pretty at all, we weren’t there to look out of the window. There was a mini bar, room service, and television and plenty of wardrobe space. Our bed was so comfortable, I could have stayed in it all day.

Price: Normally these rooms cost around EUR152 and upwards for a double room per night. We only paid EUR75 including breakfast because it was Amsterdam Hotel Night. We were really happy because it’s unusual to get a 4 star hotel at that rate. Breakfast cost from EUR24 up to EUR28, which I would never pay for if it wasn’t included because I think that it is far too expensive for the first meal of the day. I also didn’t like the fact that you had to pay for wifi in your room – there are plenty of places that offer it for free.

Food: Breakfast was included in the price of our room, and it was really good. They had a wide selection of hot and cold food and there were chefs on hand to make omlettes and fried or poached eggs. There were plenty of options for healthy eaters too (I just wanted to eat everything). Having said that, I do think that it was a little pricey (starting at EUR24).

Overall rating: I think the Renaissance Hotel Amsterdam has a great location, the rooms are comfortable, especially the bed, it’s quiet and the breakfast is good. It’s a great option of you’re not on too much of a budget. Overall my score is 7/10.

You can book a room at the Renaissance here.
